About Us

Our Story

We bought our first dog, a liver colored English Springer Spaniel named Major when George Bush Sr. was in office. Ray insisted on getting the same dog the president had! Major was a loyal family dog and had the classic Springer Spaniel spunk that we love so much. After years of owning Major (picture to the right) we decided the family should own another dog. Jamie was seven years old when she insisted on finding a Golden Retriever breeder. She did her research and presented the case to the family, who was planning on purchasing another Springer Spaniel. Ray and Teresa were weary of the size, and did not know much about the breed. They decided to attend the Maryland Kennel Club show at the Baltimore Armory in February 1997. It was here where Jamie fell in love with a Golden Retriever named Bandit, owned by Mike Cummings. "I remember petting his fluffy golden head and looking into his beautiful dark eyes and feeling his friendliness, in that moment I was set on Goldens." Mike Cummings daughter, Kelly Shuffelbottom happened to have a litter of puppies that were ready for homes in April. (Picture Left: Jamie & Allie, second Novice Junior Handler win)

Extremely excited, the family drove up to Lancaster, Pennsylvania to meet the puppies. For weeks we prepared for our first show dog, Sugar (pictured to the left). We named her CH. Honeybear's Golden Sugar Cooky.

After a few years in the business we decided to purchase our second show dog, Jack, from a highly acclaimed breeder in Massachusetts, Julie MacKinnon (Nautilus Golden Retrievers, MA). Jack took us so many places, including the first time our names were listed in the Top 20 Golden Retriever statistics. CH. Nautilus Heart of the Ocean (see photo right).

In 2004 our friend Kendra Huber (Keeley English Setters, PA) introduced us to the English Setter breed. She was given a puppy from Francie & Bob Stevens (Fieldplay English Setters, RI), and asked me if I would like to Co-Own the bitch, Nike, with her. Also in 2004 we were introduced to Beverly Wilson (Numoon Golden Retrievers, MA). Jamie needed a dog to show in junior showmanship that was vivacious, and Bev had the perfect dog. Thanks to Beverly, Jamie and "Bear" accomplished many goals in junior showmanship. Beverly now is a highly respected breeder. Currently, her boy, Ch. Numoon's Just Because, SDHF, BISS is performing in the conformation ring with Jamie. We greatly appreciated Beverly and her husband Bruce, for all of the beautiful dogs they send down to us.

Jamie is now a professional handler, showing both our dogs as well as clients. Through years the of success and years of defeat, showing will always be a part of our lives.

Our breeding program

We strive to produce healthy, beautiful and happy dogs. We do not breed dogs who do not meet the breeding standards of either the GRCA (Golden Retriever Club of America) or ESAA (English Setter Association of America). We receive heart, eye, hip clearances on all of our Golden Retrievers prior to breeding. We do BAER (hearing) tests on all English Setter puppies prior to selling them. We also get hip clearances on all setters prior to breeding. We are a hobby kennel, which means we only breed selectively, and we only have a few litters per year, if any. We breed because we enjoy producing quality puppies, and try to better the breed. If you would like more information about our breeding program, send us an email at baybreezgoldn@aol.com.
